I think I have said this before, but thank you for your lovely tribute. I am reminded of this because the Discovery Channel just ran a special entitled, "The Challenge of Re-Entry." I saw an interview about a week ago with the wife of Columbia's commander, Rick Husband. She said, "Fix it, and put it back in space."
I'm a NASA dork; I grew up with the Apollo program, and the ongoing debate about manned space flight makes my eyes glaze over. We have to do it. We have to. The desire for exploration is what makes us human beings.
Do you ever look at the Moon on a clear night? I live in a major metropolitan area, so most of the time the night sky is not worth looking at. But sometimes, especially after a summer rain, you can sort of see everything.
The best arguement ever given in favor of manned space-flight came just recently from an Apollo astronaut. He said, "When I look at the moon at night, I can point to it and say, 'That is a place where I have been.'"

Thank you DarkkOrbit. Your words could not have been more true. I have seen many documentaries in relation to the space program. As sad as the tragedies have been, not only with the Columbia but also with the Challenger, we as humans, can not loose sight of the explorations of space. After all, the astronaouts and crews of this spaceships gave their lives on such persuit. Perhaps the day when men finally conquers the vast of space, we can all say that this brave souls paved the road to such acomplishment.
