I've never paid for a skin before, because I never found one that was worth the money.

Interesting how the first fully skinned Vista WB skin is not for free. Is this a sign of things to come? I have yet to see a single free skin from any of the Master Skinners since this new idea has come out. How long is this going to continue? Before, there were sets of 5 skins for 10 dollars and now we have themes for 5 dollars a piece. To the ones who are saying "this costs the same as a computer magazine or a fast food meal" I kind of laugh, mainly because I don't go out to eat to waste my money. As for the computer magazine, if you subscribe to the magazine, you usually get a 60-75% discount. Now yes, if you have an Object Desktop subscription then you get a discount from the skins, but even still, it isn't the same. You already pay a Yearly fee (which doesn't even include ObjectDock Plus) and now it seems that the biggest names in the WB community are only making premium themes. Essorant said he was going to release a free theme after Nuage and yet Pantheon came out after that and was another premium theme.
I realize sometimes skinners want to be compensated for their 20/50/100's of hours of work, but even then, I think it is reasonable to think these themes are still overpriced. Why is Wal-Mart one of the most successful companies? They offer low affordable prices of the same goods other places offer for a cheaper price. I sincerely believe that if these themes were a mere .99 (like iTunes) or 1.99 even, sales would be increased. Musicians pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and spend MONTHS creating their efforts, and yet their songs are put on iTunes for less than a dollar. Why is it that Stardock believes this premium is 4.99?
Also, for a person being on Windows Ultimate, I have already spent enough money. Yes, I realize I want themes that are compatible, but it seems that since Stardock has NO competition currently within Windows Vista, they figure they can take advantage and start making more money off these people. If there was a proper way to skin Vista like XP, I really think Stardock would try a different idea.
I'm sorry for the rant, the skin is excellent and I am in love with the screenshot. Sadly, I feel I cannot justify this fee, mainly because I do not want to contribute to a community who is not interested in the community anymore, but rather in making money. This is not to say your theme isn't good or isn't deserving of money from other people, but again, I cannot give money to a theme just because it is 100% Vista compatible.
Good luck with your future skins, I know they will be great. Let's just hope next time it will be a little more reasonable in price or better yet, free.

Oh dear CiN FuL yet another whinge dressed up as "you don't care about me" anymore.
I am utterly sick and tired of useless comments about skins/dreams costing money, that are starting to fill these forums.
I don't skin but I appreciate the talents of those that do. How many free skins have Essorant, Adni, JJ Ying and MikeB made available - plenty. How many do I have - plenty. How many do you have - plenty.
I have purchased premium content from all of those artists as my way of repaying in a small way their sharing of an abundance of free content. Why don't you look at the $5.00 as being for All the skins, icons etc. that you have on your computer?
Tell you what, why don't you run your 'puter for a week using only the built in appearance options as a reminder of the worth of these fine artists.
If the above was your last post then I for one won't miss the negativity. I'll bet my last dollar that you'll still be downloading free content like there's no tomorrow.

Actually, I haven't used a single theme since I have had Vista, which is about 4 months. Today was the first time I downloaded a new skin; I downloaded 2. I've been very busy lately and haven't even cared about themeing recently. I eventually do want to skin Vista, for free however.
And honestly, this theme isn't remarkably different from Vista's Aero GUI. I honestly still prefer Aero much more to what I see in this screenshot.

I have no problem with anyone who wishes to charge for their efforts. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay for anything. It's your choice to choose to either pay for a skin you like or to not get said skin.
If anyone wishes to promote more free skins- the place to do that is with better, more compelling free skins, not complaints.
