Vista review By MM
a simple review :)
Friday, October 6, 2006 by MagedMedia | Discussion: Windows Vista
using Vista RC1 Build 5600
i am really enjoying it
i think Microsoft made a master Piece with that OS
My Computer Specifications:
Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz
640 DDR Ram
Nvidia FX 5500 256 DDR
2 Internal Western Digital Hard Disks 160 & 80 G.B
VIA on Board sound
MY Windows Experience rate is 2.6
Vista is a real Powerful OS from Microsoft
i got it installed in about 45 minutes
i didn't face any problems except when it just finished installation and restarted to logon for the first time on vista it said it will measure my pc performance and freezed at this screen anyway i restarted it and every thing gone perfect
and here is my small review on Vista i will write some simple comments about the screenshots
that i have taken to the most inmportant "New look" places in Vista
1-Let us start with the redesigned "Start Menu"
as u see from the pictures there is no more submenu after another every thing is opened
in one place in the start menu itself
and on the top right of Start menu there is a small picture that changes depending on
what are the pointer on now
2-Then the new powerful sidebare wich u see on this screenshot vista comes with some really great Gadgets
about weather, currency , analogue Clock , headlines and even a puzzle for you to enjoy
3-oh and i have forgotten the welcome Center Screen that have links for many useful tasks
4-and finally we see the long waited IE7 i think microsoft is trying to get all their past
IE users back again the first thing that u can notice when u connect to the internet is
the imprvoved net speed in IE 7 the webpages loads faster than ever
i am currently mainly depending on IE 7 on any internet related task
of course they have added also the tabs which allows you to open many sites in the same window
5- and here is the improved security Center containing windows defender
6- well and now let us talk a little about Windows Aero theme well microsoft is giving you
all your needs with the vista release a great skin with great abilities and gadgets
and big 3D icons like desktop X so why yill u need any other customising program ?
i think Skinners will have a lot to do now to compete with that great skin
7-Microsoft is paying attention for every error report u send now as u see here they found a solution for an error
i sent about a simple hang for the windows explorer!!!! hope they continue
after releasing the official version paying attention to that error reports
8-is any one getting a good help form the windows help center here?????
here in vista u will find it very useful even for some taskes it shows u step by step how
to make what u want it can do every thing in real and u can keep just watching and learting
or it can tell u press here and then here and u do so by yourself
9-this screenshot shows the animation while minimizing and maxmizing windows
10-and what about the alt-tab function it is still there but they have added
an icon near the quick launch icons on the task bar which will make a 3D preview for
the opened windows with a live shot from them and so u can shoose wich one u want to make the idea clearer take
a look on the screenshot
11-In Vista it will rate your computer to see how much powerful is it
it measures your processor,ram , harddisk,....etc
performance and give u a rate for every thing
and at then get the smallest rate that a component gave
and make it a so called "base score"
this rating will help in some parts in vista
this operating system is intellengent it measure
your computer performance and give u what your pc
will work with
for example the windows theme itself
if u have a powerful pc it will load the new windows
powerful Aero theme featuring transparancy, great animation, etc...
even in Vista included game it requires a min rating of "1" to work smoothly but i think in the part of games it isn't so important for a powerful computer
what solitar, minessweeper ,..etc will need to work????
that is a simple ways vista needs rating in
12-here is a shot for the control panel
13-and another one for the greatly improved folder icons "thumbnails"
14-take a look here do u recognize the old my computer ? here is the new one i think
every new feature is clear here in this screen shot
well did anybody here missed the old bar here? it is completely changed
u will depend on the keyboard shortcuts ctrl+X, ctrl+c ,..etc
but many is used to the up bottun and they can't easily forget there times clicking it
well here u can take a look at the address bar well u can go up now by just click the
part u need from the address bar itself u will get used to it and u will find it more faster
and now finally i hope i have given u a good review on vista and cleared some of
its great functions too
i have been reading its news for about two years now since it was called longhorn
well i am really really waiting for it
hope you have enjoyed your time reading this small review

Nice review. However let's all boycott Vista. |
How about not?

Any particular reason to boycott vista? I mean besides "Microsoft is teh EVIL!" and all that junk.

And the best reason is that XP runs FINE.
Anyhoo...

Nice review. However le t's all boycott Vista. |
What a silly and contradictory thing to say....nice but let's boycott it anyhow!
Maybe a drop in price would make Vista more attractive to the average consumer...but really, what logical reason would there be for everyone to boycott Vista? There's plenty of people who do like it, even if you're not impressed.
Anyway, should you ever decide to stick your head in the oven, I certainly hope you won't expect us all to follow suit....each to their own, if ya know wot I mean!

Maybe a price drop and NO DRM crap. |
I agree a price drop would be nice, but DRM these days is surely becoming more and more unavoidable. Whether MS uses DRM in Vista or not.....thanks to pirates, bootleggers & thieves, DRM is fast becoming a reality in all forms of electronic media, like it or not.....
But here's one for ya! I have a (protected) Joss Stone CD, and no way no how will it play with any version of WMP or Winamp in XP Home or Pro. It does, however, play in Vista with WMP 11....go figure.

@ Sir starkers i think that you are right about the price they should get it down a little and this will increase the popularity of Vista
But i still love Vista

Yeah, I've spoken with a few people who say they love the feel of Vista, but once the trial runs out that's it.....no more Vista cos they just don't have the bucks to afford to buy it, not even the Home Premium edition, which will retail here in Oz for around $400ish
I personally will forego a few unnecessary things (luxuries) to get the Vista Ultimate upgrade pack at around $550 AUD, but many are simply saying they don't have that many luxuries to give up, that just covering life's bare essentials will preclude them from purchasing Vista with that kind of price tag.
Another issue is Vista's hardware requirements. Yeah, more homes than ever have A PC, but just how many of them are capable of running Vista? I got quite a surprise when I discovered just how many people to whom I've spoken are still running Windows 98 on old 486's or P2's with 64mb or less of RAM, 32mb on board graphics and 20gig or less hard drives.
Yep, there's millions of homes with A PC, but for many average users, purchasing a Vista capable machine is but a distant dream....owning Vista itself an impossible dream. Maybe PC component prices have come down, but the cost of living continues to rise, and at the advertised prices, Vista isn't likely to be a reality for many PC owner/users of this generation or the next....maybe the one after, perhaps?

but using the old 486'sand p2 is really a big surprise to know that there is many using it untill now
to get a vista cabable pc
we don't need a dream PC
but just get a pc containing moderate components will be enough
the secret is the compatibility of the components with each other not getting a very high proccesor and a low ram or hard
i have seen many 3 & 3.4GHZ PCs and they got a 1.0 Windows Experience rate from Vista
although i got 2.6 here with a 2 ghz one
running Vista with its Full features
people specially the begginers is amazed with the Titles of a 3GHZ Proccesor and such things with a low price but if they took another look they will find many deffects take the proccessor cache memory for a simple example
when the P4 was just out in stores i bought it with a price 1200 L.E.
while after 3 monthes i found someone saying that he bought a 2.4 P4 with 300 L.E only but i found later that it was a 256 k.b. Cache memory !!!!!
and so just an advice for the biggeners please don't be amazed with the decieving titels asnd ask yourself why is this with a such low price??

oh it really amazing to know how many is still stick with win 98 but using the old 486'sand p2 is really a big surprise to know that there is many using it untill now |
Both my immediate neigbours run 486's with Windows 98 SE, but they're only two households out of dozens I've visited that run rather antiquated PC's with 95 & 98, with one or two running ME or 2000 on slightly better machines....but not one of them are capable of running XP, much less Vista. The majority of these people told me they struggled to raise the $50 or $60 to get their ancient PC's from auctions disposing of ex-government cast offs, so a $1200 + PC that's Vista ready just isn't within their budget, and thus, a $700 OS on top of a PC upgrade is totally out of the question.
The consistent reason for not upgrading to XP is not being able to afford an XP ready machine, so a Vista ready machine is an even more remote possibility for most, being the ever increasing cost of living is the primary obstacle for low income families. Hence, Vista Ultimate at AUD$754 is, to them, a 'non-essential' toy for the wealthy and unattainable.
Sure there are more powerful/up to date machines around, but given my experiences and many conversations, they're not as commonplace in the average home as one might think, and it's a situation that's not going to change any time soon/in the near future to accomodate Vista with such a high price tag.....not unless there's a major rethink regarding propensity to pay/upgrade, etc. Without this, Vista sales will fall well short of MS' expectations and/or hopes.
Concessions for beta testers who have assisted in development with regular feedback/bug reports would be a good start....discount on OEM versions attached to recent hardware purchases for Vista ready home builds....pension discounts, even.

Also, I've read a few comments saying this newer verion of Nero is bloated and has far too many unnecessary apps, but (although I'm still playing with it, discovering its full potential, it has much improved data & drive backup features; better rip and media conversion tools, etc: a new & more customizable 'SmartStart' interface.....'tis well worth a look WWW Link
