WindowBlinds 7 Sneak peek
Friday, April 24, 2009 by Frogboy | Discussion: Personal Computing
A lot of exciting things are in the works for WindowBlinds 7. The target date for it hasn’t been set. It’ll be “when it’s done” but it will be, by far, the most significant update to WindowBlinds ever. We’re taking it in a pretty different direction.
The above is just a mockup but give you an idea of some of the things we’re thinking for for the config UI.

Isn't that one of life's little ironies? That WB's own app is unskinnable?

In fact, all SD customisation apps should have this feature...would save a lot of space on our OS drives.
Yes, I second that. I'm just trying to set up a new laptop, and as I get to (or rather I have to...) set it up from scratch it's the first time I will have the opportunity to dual boot. I was just trying to set-up the WB skin folder to a different partition but it seems that the registry entry for the skins location will always revert to the default... sigh
Honestly I don't know why it ever got moved from within the WindowBlinds program folder location...
edit: a little more investigation reveals that one has to edit more than one of the 'wb.ini' folder location registry entries. I found three, HKLM, HKCU, and HKU...

That was more a Microsoft thing, something to do with all accounts being able to access via 'public/shared folders, but you're right, depending on the administrator settings, program files are accessible to other users. Besides, if WB (any SD skinning app) is made available to other users, the skins are accessible via the WB interface, so it shouldn't really matter where they are stored.
Having said that, however, it should be a consideration to dual/triple booters to have to option to store skins on a dedicated drive/partition and give all skinning apps the ability to select the skin path/folder, etc. And it's not just a matter of space (of which I have ample) but rather that it's a pain in the arse when you do a full AV scan that has to inspect duplicated/triplicated skin files. Damned AV thing takes forever... and to some, who are running average to lower powered machines, those resources used in this tedious process are invaluable if/when trying to do other tasks.
Yup, it has to be a consideration... registry edits, particularly for the inexperienced, should not be THE option.
