All in all it's actually the only "theme" i've yet to use because it looks freaking tight on the screen like a custom maching SHOULD. So great work and thank you very much for the contributions you've made...really incredible work!

In your screen shot the 15 folder/file icons on the windows are all visible. Mine only show up when I do a mouse over. How can I make them always appear? Some of the icons with a right click show "remove" (word). Some show nothing (adobe and graphics). And others show "remove" and "set". I can set up new links but can these icons be renamed and if so how is it done? Since both graphics and adobe show nothing, nor lead anywhere on my computer, what do I do with them? I have the same questions dealing with the center pop up dock that has all the Stardock icons. Are these permanent names or can they be changed (no offense to Stardock)? Finally, besides using the system bar in the lower right corner to uninstall Desktop X, how do you shut your computer off? Since there apparently is no start menu (or am I wrong?) where is the window to restart or shut down?
I think this is a fun desktop but I need to find my way around and rename/relink various things to fit my own needs. Thanks for whatever help you can give. And no, I didn't try locking it. I'm still working on remembering how to unload the theme when I get lost.

Since you are new to this, I can see why you have so many questions. I'll try to answer a few. First, before you load Object Desktop, right click on your taskbar and open properties. In the properties window there is an option to "Auto-hide the taskbar", make sure you check this option (this solves your last question). Now, you need to load Object Desktop in Builder mode. There are a few ways of accomplishing this. I suggest (since I don't know what desktop you had previously loaded) to open builder mode from your DesktopX folder...C:\Program Files\ObjectDesktop\DesktopX...you may have it located in another place, but you have the idea. Once in the DesktopX folder, find the "DesktopX Builder.exe" file and double click it to open DesktopX. Once here, if you do not have Po'Smedley's desktop loaded, load it now. To configure what you want to configure, it is essential you are operating in builder mode and not client. Ok, now to make the shortcuts on the window visible, you need to right-click the icon->click properties->click the States Tab->Make sure you have the mouse away selected under States Tab->now click the appearance tab within the States Tab and note the name that appears in the arrow scroll box (it will be the name of the icon you are changing with a 002 after it.)-> you need to change this to the .PNG that just has that icon's name i.e."Projects.png" not "Projects002.png" (once you have opened the scroll box it will be directly above the selected image). Once this is done click apply. Voila!
Now for everything else, you apply the same technique, just right click, then click properties. Once in properties you will want to click the first change button you see, it will be located under the "Object Type: Shortcut" area. Once you have clicked change, there will be two options for you, "File Shortcut" or "Folder Shortcut", depending on what you are linking to, click the relevant selection. Now just click the browse button and find whatever you want to link to...Voila!
As far as the image of the icons (words) wanting to be changed, well good luck. These are custom made by Mr. Po'Smedley himself, so I doubt anything you change it to will look nice. Remember, these desktops are the creator's view of how a certain desktop should operate. Not only that, they are incredible pieces of art...well some anyway. So while there are some things you want to tweak, it really isn't worth the time and effort if what you change doesn't sustain that original ambience of the Desktop. This of course is just my opinion.
Ok, now I can't rember if I have answered everything or not...Sorry everyone for the long Post.

I also needed to add to the contol issues, you need to remember that when in doubt there is always a way out. One of those, and the easiest in my opinion, is the WinKey on the Keyboard. If this option is not sufficient, the "CTRL+Shift+ESC" or "CTRL+ALT+DELETE". But before all of that, if you just Open DesktopX from the Dock in Po's desktop, Click the create option (if you are in Client Mode) this will convert you to the Builder Mode. There will be a dialog box that appears, just say yes or ok to all. From here you are able to unlock the taskbar and get out.
Sorry again, now for the double post

That's how they should be. I will probably redo the SS to make this clearer.
Some show nothing (adobe and graphics). And others show "remove" and "set". |
This came up in testing. I fixed them, but after reading your post I went back and checked. The only one coming up with just 'remove' is WORD. I will update. I have it linked to wordpad on my PC, and for some reason, it's a broken link now. All others can have the Target reset. As Kilokrash pointed out, you can't change them, they are all graphics in the windows.
I have the same questions dealing with the center pop up dock that has all the Stardock icons. |
Permanant names. The only way to change them, I suppose, would be with builder. You would have to delete the 'image' for each and either use a 'font state' or make and insert your own image.
how do you shut your computer off? |
Clicking your window key will bring up the start menu. I didn't make a custom one for this, but may in the update if there is enough requests for one.
UNCHECK the option to "Hide Windows Taskbar". |
This will however, make the taskbar accessible in LOCKDOWN mode to other users trying to get in to your desktop.
I apologize for the frustration people seem to be having. A lot of this is due to trying to work in this 'secure mode'. I may make one without the lockdown in an update.
For all who downloaded and are checking back, let me know if you feel it's too buggy or too complicated or both.I don't want t leave it up if it's not working for you, I'd rather redo it.

I gotta wait for the 1280x1024 size though |
Don't know if this can be done. I asked RomanDA about it, since I and no one else has been able to resize it. It seems I would have to resize each and every object and graphic I created individually. Not that I couldn't. but then there is the whole problem of getting my little PC to work at all in that resolution for me to put it all together. Sorry. Maybe a future update of the software or my computer will make it possible.
And a big thanks to Kilokrash for helping me to work these bugs out.
Thanks for the quick instructions. |
Thanks for your patience and for trying the skin out. I promise to update over the weekend to fix these little bugs. A larger update will come later.

instead an invisible Icon will activiate |
I caught that myself. I don't have a clue whay it does that. Maybe because I used my own background and not the one DX automatically inserts for the Taskbar and system tray.
