FireScape HD has nearly 5 times larger resolution when compared to the original! You asked for it, you got it!

This is the same debate that has been discussed regarding the 'Blissful Sunset' dream. Some people feel that paying for high-quality dreams is ridiculous... and I respect that. But there are also some people who find that $4 or $5 is worth paying for higher-quality content.
In the case of FireScape, there is a version for people from both schools of thought. I hope that you enjoy whichever version(s) you end up with.
As for the cost of rendering, I am a professional graphics & web designer. Though I am not charged when I hit the 'batch render' button, my computer and the software on it have cost me plenty over the last few years. If I can create products with my computer and software that people will willingly buy, I am able to recoup some of my costs while providing end-users with new, unique content and a pleasant shopping experience.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion or ill impressions.

I don't feel you're picking on me - we're just sharing our perspectives. And lol... where would I get my constructive criticism if all the "professional web critics and cynics" were gone?
