I'm very excited about the potential uses of this docklet, though i'm not getting it to work on my end yet.

i followed your instructions (very helpful by the way) and quit OD before installing, installed, added sysstats object, right clicked and loaded mail_static.ini so far so good...

Now I did this twice for two accounts.

I'm using Outlook Express so under Profile Name I put "UW Email" and "Hotmail" which is what it says under accounts and the passwords for each.

I have one or set at "0" and the other at "1" since I didn't fully understand what the difference between these two was.

The UW Email one didn't detect the unread mail already there, and then I sent a test email to both accounts. Both docklets still display 0 unread messages.

Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Set the profile and password to nothing. It seems I was wrong about what the profile name actually meant. It seems it actually equates to the user identities under the file menu for outlook express. If you set the profile name to nothing it uses the default identity.

One other proviso: It only counts emails in your inbox - if you automatically file mail into other folders (including sub-folders of your inbox) they won't get counted. This is a limitation of MAPI so not something that I can fix unfortunately.

For those of you are using Outlook (as opposed to outlook express) you should leave the 'valid days' value as zero - Outlook will complain if you set it to anything else - this is an anti-viral feature of Outlook to prevent other applications from reading your email.

OK so i got it to work on my work machine... here's the deal. It will only display unread messages in your top inbox folder of outlook express... hotmail and/or IMAP accounts will not work with this docklet (unless you can send them to your default inbox somehow)

anyone use an email program that doesn't treat IMAP and Hotmail accounts so differently from POP accounts and will let those emails go into your main inbox?

I'm sure I'm being thick, but I don't appear to be able to get it to check mail and display mail details.

Cheers!

Right click/Configure meters.../Shortcut... Enter the application of your choice (e.g. outlook.exe).

the docklet does not show up in ObjectDock. Looks like you missed to include the .dll file in the .zip.

For those of you who cant get it to work, make sure you install SysStats first... which you can find on this site.

I really like this docket... my only complaint is that it doesn't work with dock indicators that the program is open... but then again... its a sysstat plugin, so i guess that isn't possible.

Darn I wish this worked with Gmail because I am too lazy to go through the login to check my new emails. LOL

I'm trying to use this with Thunderbird, but am having problems. It keeps launching Thunderbird every time it checks for mail (every 10 minutes). And how do I get it to also check my Yahoo account (I'm using YahooPOPS)?

This checker doesn't use POP3, it uses MAPI. MAPI requires your email client to be running unless you are using MS Exchange.

I'm trying it with thunderbird and it has frozen OD b/c it constantly opens thunderbird. I literally cannot close thunderbird or quit OD?? Anyone know why I would get this result with Thunderbird?

I doubt anyone's still checking this (that can officially answer this, anyway) but is there any way to make the icon bounce in the dock like the any other app that needs attention?

I keep the dock minimized, so this would be great.

This app causes my Outlook (2003 SP1) to display a dialog saying something to the effect of "An application is attempting to access your address book, which could be the result of a virus". It then gives you the option of denying or giving access. Unfortunately, the most you can give access for is 10 minutes.

I've seen this before with other applications that use MAPI to syncronize with Outlook (such as my smart phone).

Then, of course, the system gets itself all confused and eventually crashes my laptop.

Anyone have any ideas how to bypass this "security feature" in Outlook for this awesome application?
