And be charged for cruelty to sidewalks? While a ... concrete... suggestion, it is at best...illogical.
Now that is brilliant! +6!

This probably isn't the best idea but if existing users can make another account and buy something else and be eligible, it isn't so bad.
Do preorders count?

Does stardock even have a computer at the office (or somewhere) that is that good?
My new computer seems duller now

Don't know what everyone is bitching about, you've all probably won some kind of competition at some point in your life. The only thing I have ever won was a runners up lego set in a toys r us competition when I was 9. You can't complain about this competition because you aren't entitled to the PC. It's not yours, it's the millionth customers and theirs alone. If you want a shot at winning create a second account like many have suggested and buy something. Then you have as much chance of winning as everyone else.
I know it's a beast of a machine and many would like to own it, but compare it to mine if you will.
- Case: HP standard case
- Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.66Ghz
- RAM: 1 GB DDR
- CD: 8x DVD Burner
- Power: 350 Watt Power Supply (Maybe can't be bothered to check.)
- Video: Nvidia 7600GS 256mb
- Monitor: 15" TFT
- Sound:Onboard
- Speakers: None, Sennheiser HD 515 headphones
- HD: 40GB, 80GB, 500GB External
- OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home
Oh what's that you say thats not a very good PC. Yeah I know I've had it 6 years and most the specs you see are upgrades. You all probably have better PC's than me anyway so why are you complaining. Most of you probably ain't got it bad so let someone else have a moment of glory. You'll have yours.
In this economic crisis the last thing on your mind should be a power hungry 1000 watt gaming pc which you have to buy more software to stand a chance at winning.

2 TERABYTES OF HARDDRIVE AND 12 GIGABYTES OF RAM?!?!?!?
I didn't know that was even possible . . .
503MB of RAM and 64GB of harddrive; I feel pathetic

I do see the point being brought up.
If I purchase a NEW item via impulse, I'm a NEW customer and should be eligible. If I renew an existing app I am not. If I've already purchased something in the past I am not a NEW customer but have contributed to the past count.
I remember the days that a grocery store would give away xx amount for the xxx customer. Every time I went in to the store and purchased something I would be considered for the prize.
Will I lose any sleep over it? Hell no. Good fortune to the winner!

Yup! And if you win with a pre-order, you get a pre-computer...fingers or abacus...your choice!
Reply #89 Thursday, March 19, 2009 6:38 PM
but dont finger you abacus .. you'll go blind.

Let's see if it can be put more simply....
THIS IS NOT A CONTEST....with a prize.
It is an AWARD to commemorate a significant event.
Gawd...even Draginol [Frogboy]'s comment was seen by some as yet another person bitching about the situation.
Frankly all I hope is there is NO WAY any of these moaners can become the 1 millionth customer, I really do.

totally awsome for the millionth user! what A RIG!!! congrats to whoever gets it...lucky buggers!!!
Reply #92 Thursday, March 19, 2009 6:53 PM
An award is generally given to someone who has made some kind of great accomplishment. Calling it an AWARD rather than just a PRIZE is even worse from a semantic point of view.
But thanks for trying.

Yes...I'm trying....
But some are even more.....

Speaking only for myself here, but I am ok with just being one of the 999,999 customers who made this event possible.
Congrats in advance to the lucky one-millionth.

I wake up on my side of the Pacific after there being a few small comments about the clarification of the terms and a couple of whiners when i went to bed.
I now see 4 pages of asshats, not everyone of course, complaining cause they can't win.
For christs sake people!!! Where is the 6ft guy with the big gun that made you purchase products through Impulse? You obviously saw something worth your cash on there and handed it over. No-one made you become a customer befor the 1M, you made a choice based on what service or product SD was offering and went with it. You would rather not have been playing GC2 or SINS etc all this time? Or perhaps you would rather your desktop still looked like Mr Gates 4 yr old's pre-school painting?
It was obviously value to you at the time but now you are cheated/wronged! You didn't make a great purchase?
You must be after a refund then, if you are so pissed off. I'm sure Brad can see to that.
If you really want to be the millionth customer and win something, i'm sure there is a flashy banner add on some web site that will draw you in.
And i bet you won't have to buy anything!! Good for you hey? Quick run to it, click away, sign up!!!
Geeez.....
Serioulsy though, and unless i get slapped by Brad for this, i can tell you how you can all be the 1M customer.
Make a new email address.
Log into Impulse and click the Impulse Orb.
Click change login, and then Create new account.
Once you have created your account and validated it and such, buy something cheap.
There, done, your new account might just have the chance to win. You have just bought another great product and got a chance at the prize and SD just made some more cash.
As for fraud, where? You are a legitimate paying customer, this might not be the perfect situation Brad and SD had in mind, but they just earned more money didn't they?
Reply #98 Thursday, March 19, 2009 7:32 PM
I feel certain that not all of the almost one million Impulse users have made a purchase with Impulse. I'm a user and a avid Stardock customer, yet I've never made a purchase with Impulse. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
If this is going to the millionth Impulse "customer" and not the millionth user, it could be a while before it's given away.
But...what an awesome give away!!!
Someone is going to be a happy pup when they get this beast.

I asked this of Brad in another thread. He said that there are already millions of registered users. This is for the 1M purchaser.
Impulse had done better than you thought huh? Yeah, me too.
Edit - From the Stardock's Impulse Nears Millionth User thread.
We have millions of Impulse accounts but a lot of them are using freeware programs or shareware.
*edit: Draginol? What kinda nick is that? Isn't that an antibiotic against infections caused by Dragon bites? Get a better one!
lol brad is draginol

Wow, that's a lot of prize for an arbitrarily chosen new customer. I'm not entirely sure I understand the strategy behind it, to be honest. You're awarding this, with seemingly virtually no advertising, to someone that as of yet isn't a Stardock customer. I have to agree with the crowd here that it seems like giving existing customers a shot would make for better advertising, but it's SD's money and they get to make the rules. I hope whoever gets that rig is actually a gamer, though. It'd be kind of wasted on a non-gaming office worker who was just trying to buy Object Desktop.
