Well, I do not have a laptop/PC with a wireless network adapter... all I have is a XP VM (which does not emulate the WLAN as a WiFi adapter) so I have no real way to debug my code on an XP machine. Maybe if you could PM me with more details on your setup and the troubles you are facing? Are there any other XP users out there facing similar problems?

Would you mind to elaborate? When you open the configuration settings... are there any adapters being detected? Could you post some images of the error?

Like several of the users above, I am having trouble with this docklet. I have installed and uninstalled several times from both the wincustomize and your linked url. I have restarted and reloaded. When I rightclick to add, it doesn't appear. I have tried on OD and OD Plus (both versions 1.9). I then tried on RocketDock which is able to use OD docklets, the following error message appears: This application has failed to start because Wlanapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I want to use OD Plus, any help appreciated. Using WinXP Pro, Service Pack 2.

Hey fedroponce, I'm having the same problem that others are having; I've downloaded from WinCustomize several times, extracted everything to the docklets folder, and I still can't get the docklet to show up to add it. I'm running XP SP2 and using OD Plus 1.9 Build 535u. Even after I restart OD, it isn't showing up. I've also verified the security settings for the DLL that you mentioned earlier. Any ideas? I could really use this docklet!

The docklet uses WLAN API to retrieve & sense the WiFi adapter information... It seems that the required WLAN API is not installed in your system. For Windows XP users, you should download & install Microsoft Wireless LAN API (KB918997) in order to use the Docklet. Windows Vista already includes WLAN API.

fedroponce - I downloaded the file you mentioned, rebooted and now when I try to add the wifi docklet, I can do it! When configuring the settings, it found one interface for the wifi adapter, and I'm connected to my company's wifi, yet the icon shows that I'm not connected, so naturally, no SSID, no IP. I'm going to try my wireless connection at home to see if maybe that one will work; I use an aircard there, and I think a different adapter interface will be found. I'll let you know after trying that out. Thank you for your quick response.

BikerChickWi - If the problem persist, you may send an email (it is on the readme) with a capture of the "Detailed information" dialog & "Config" dialog ... they may contain info that will let me find if there is any bug.

Having the address readily available is very useful for someone like me who needs it to remote in while at work and whose ISP seems to enjoy resetting it every couple days. I'm too lazy to go to ipconfig every day to check if it hasn't changed.

Vijartal, I am not sure what you mean by "Extended IP Address", I understand that whenever you use a dialup or DSL connection to internet the internet gateway is configured to release an DHCP IP address to the computer (which is the one that is being shown, but the router itself gets an internal and an external IP Address. I think you need the router's external IP address to be shown... is that it? I have tried ipconfig but I see no "extender ip" there... whould you mind to clarify this?
Just a suggestion, but I think putting the extended IP in the detailed information would be great. Having the address readily available is very useful for someone like me who needs it to remote in while at work and whose ISP seems to enjoy resetting it every couple days. But, at least in my system I see not "External" IP Address asigned to my WiFi Adapter... in my configuration I have a Wireless broadband router which services my home network by leasing Private IP addresses to the hosts. Could you explain how is your setup?

Well, the router assigns its own IP addresses to each computer connected to the router, while the IP address for our modem, the external IP, is provided by the ISP. For instance, my router-assigned IP is 123.456.78.901 and my external IP is 12.34.56.789, which is what I need to allow remote access to my home network. Obviously these aren't my actual IP addresses. I was under the impression this was how all networks were set up. (
Normally I would have to log on to my router's internal setup manager or go to sites like whatismyip.com to make sure the ext. IP didn't change. Hopefully this makes things clearer.

I have studied some Vista Sidebar Gadgets & google gadgets that retrieve the external IP address. They all achieve this by calling an external http page that it's only purpose it to retrieve the IP address from the caller (thus the External IP address from the computer calling it)... e.j. WWW Link , so, I may include some code that gets called when the docklet updates the information, calling one of these pages and updating the information to show it in the detailed info window. Will this do it?

The WIFI API has a method that retrieves the information from the wifi driver... I just get the number and show it. Through some testing (with my laptop) and moving around I have found that it actually changes (a few times below 80%) but mine too shows 100% almost all the time (but I am quite close to my router).

I assume so; I used to use one of those gadgets, as well, until I got OD and I turned SideBar off. I never looked into how it obtained the ext. IP, but if that's how it did so, I assume the same method would work fine for the docklet, too.

Installing the MS Wireless Lan API resolved my issue where the docklet wasn't showing up at all. I am now able to add it to my dock on WinXP SP2 machine. However... After I configured it with the (only) Wifi adapter it detected on my laptop, and connect to our WAP, the docklet still shows "Disconnected" status. Could this be related to the fact that I'm using a 3rd-party utility for managing wireless connectivity (ThinkVantage Access Connections) instead of using Windows' built-in wireless management tools? Or perhaps it has to do with me also using FortiClient for VPN and Firewall?
