Well there's no better tool for advanced research of obscure and clasified information than Google.

Have installed the docklet and it seems to be working as far as collecting info on my wifi interface and connection. Everything shows fine in the Detailed Information window. However, the icon does not change from the no-access red X, using any of the icon sets including the vista pack. Checked about the API update mentioned earlier in this thread and tried to install. Am running Windows XP SP3 and was told it was not necessary. But as I said, the docklet is indeed collecting the info. Just not converting it into a display of the correct icon. Ideas?

Working now. Honestly, don't know what made the different. Just after I restarted for something else I was doing, the icon works, including the overlay text. I had restarted several times already since installing it. This time something apparently fell into place. Thanks anyway. By the way, really prefer your docklet to the ones requiring SysStats. A much cleaner solution.

Thanks... this was my very fist docklet... I appreciate your comments. I think I will be doing an update to this docklet since there has been so much I have learnt since then.

Thank you, fedroponce! It works well. By the way, any plan to include wired network info into it?

The network monitor docklet does exactly that it let you monitor any network interface (wired or wireless) and shows network thorugput... aside many other connection parameters like DHCP address, proxy, etc.
Thank you, fedroponce! It works well. By the way, any plan to include wired network info into it?

I have only one problem, and hope yoou can help with it, I have it installed and running, and it works as advertised, EXCEPT, for me I CANNOT, no matter what URL I use, get the external IP to show up. I have tried all 4 of the URL's in the readme, also the first 2 without port numbers. Also 2 questions, 1. Can you add an option to show the external IP in place of the local IP? 2. Is this available as a Widget, and if not can you make one? [EDIT] Sorry, it seems that wherever I post a comment, it gets posted twice, even thouogh I only hit submit once. Also, I am running this on Vista Ultimate SP1.

Well I'm not sure on the web addresses for checking for external IP on your system... did you tried them by copying the URL to your browser? Did that work?
On the other hand, I see not much problem on having an option to show the external IP address instead of the internal one. The only caveat is that retrieving the external IP address would require and active internet connection and in some circumstances it could fail.

Yes, all the addresses in your readme showed my External IP. I also tried http://www.whatsmyip.org, which is the one I used on a Sidebar gadget. About showing the External vs. the Internal, couldn't that be done as a setting? So the user chooses in the settings which IP is shown.

I use wininet to open an internet connection to the configured URL, maybe you need to install wininet to your system (although I believe in vista it is already there).
On the other hand... could you download my network monitor docklet, it also checks for the external IP address, with a very similar code, jout to test out if both are having problems.

Where would I find this wininet to make sure it's installed? I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, freshly installed and fully updated. I will find and download your other to try that out. And I don't know if this is significant, but when I put a URL into the WiFi docklet's settings, it would appear not to be kept. That is to say, when I try to open the details, nothing is there under External IP, and when I go back to the docklet's settings, the URL is gone.

Ok, I installed the Network Monitor docklet, and ran it. It DOES show my External IP correctly. Then I ran both the Docklets at the same time, the WiFi still does not show my external, when I open the settings, the URL is gone every time.

I installed the Network Monitor, it works and shows my correct External IP. Then I ran both Docklets at the same time, the WiFi still does not show my external IP. And when I go back to the settings, the URL is gone. Now, when I added the URL to the Network Monitor, my Firewall kicked in and asked for permission to access Internet. When I tried the WiFi Docklet, this did NOT happen. I have my Firewall blocked programs list, and there is nothing in there that I can connect to the WiFi Docklet, meaning it would have the access it needs. As I said earlier though, for some reason, I suspect that it's to do with the URL to the IP site not staying in the settings.

It seems to me that you are working with an older version of the docklet... take a look at aqua-soft for an updated one. Many of my docklets have been updated recently, but since I have not yet "released" them, some are not as updated here in wincustomize.com as in aqua-soft. Please, go to WWW Link

Nope, sorry, I tried it, but it's the same as the previous one. Details shows no external IP, and the URL does not stay in the settings window.
